thePHO is not-for-profit (registered charity application pending) and is governed by an appointed Board of clinicians and primary healthcare experts.

The day-to-day running of thePHO is delegated to a Chief Executive who is supported by a highly skilled team of staff and professional advisers.

Our Board


 

thePHO substantive Board (appointment pending) will be a skills-based group of highly respected leaders within New Zealand’s healthcare sector, each bringing significant expertise, strategic insight, and a commitment to supporting the interests of primary healthcare.

With a clear focus on governance and ensuring the sustainability of primary health care and front-line general practice, the Board will be dedicated to navigating the complexities of the sector while upholding the values of equity, professionalism, and excellence in shaping the future of healthcare for the benefit of both practitioners and patients across New Zealand.

thePHO Board of Directors plays a pivotal role in providing strategic oversight and direction for the organisation. This includes setting the strategy and the development of the annual strategic work plan. The Board consists of up to eleven directors, with one elected as the Chair. Directors serve a three-year term.

thePHO Board will reflect the diverse nature of primary healthcare. A majority of the Board will be practicing clinicians and will, wherever possible include a GP from each region of the country (Northern, Midland | Te Manawa Taki, Central | Te Ikaroa, South Island | Te Waipounamu), a general practice-based Nurse or Nurse Practitioner and, a Primary Care Allied Health Practitioner. At least 50% of Board members will be owners of, or representatives of general practices which are members of GenPro. 

The substantive, skills-based board will be confirmed shortly. In the meantime, an Establishment Board is in place to ensure the governance of thePHO's development.
