How to Join
General practices that are members of GenPro may apply to transfer to thePHO. Under the terms of the Contracted Provider Agreement, general practices must give a minimum of 6 months notice of their intention to leave their existing PHO.
Contracts for services will be negotiated to take effect from 1 July annually. Therefore individual general practices should apply to join thePHO and give notice to leave their current PHO by the preceding 31 December.
Expressions of Interest update
Practices who would like the option to join thePHO from 1 July 2026 must submit 6 months' contractual notice to their existing PHO by 31 December 2025.
We continue to accept Expressions of Interest from practices who are considering joining and intend to submit notice by this date.
Current level of interest
Expressions of Interest have been received from 116 general practices, covering over 833,000 enrolled patients.
Interest has been received from practices in every region of New Zealand.
Withdrawal Notice
Practices must ensure six months’ notice is provided to their current PHO by Wednesday 31 December 2025.

Please bcc a copy of your notice to application@thepho.org.nz
so compliance with contract requirements is recorded.

Health New Zealand has confirmed practices retain the right to remain with their existing PHO after 1 July 2026 if a back to back agreement with another PHO is not agreed.
