Dr Mark Peterson is a full-time General Practitioner and Director of Taradale Medical Centre. With more than three decades in clinical practice, Mark brings deep insight into the realities of frontline healthcare and the strategic leadership needed to strengthen General Practice across Aotearoa New Zealand.
As the establishment Medical Director and Clinical Governance Lead for thePHO, Mark provides clinical oversight and strategic direction to ensure that the organisation’s work is grounded in evidence-based practice, equity, and system integrity. His focus is on supporting sustainable models of care, strengthening clinical quality frameworks, and ensuring that primary care remains central to a high-performing health system.
Mark has extensive governance experience, including as Chair of the NZMA GP Council and Board and as Deputy Chair of the Hawke’s Bay Primary Health Organisation. He has been a long-standing advocate for fair funding, improved workforce sustainability, and better recognition of General Practice within national health policy.
